You've always felt that your actions have been controlled by some unseen force, a manipulative tormentor who seeks total control over your body and your mind. For years you've lived in silent desperation, unable to wrestle back control of your mind nor able to interact with another human being for fear that /it/ might be released. An attempt to finally take control sends you spiraling into darkness, to awake in the surreal world of your mind.
This is The Abyss: a surreal work of interactive fiction where you struggle to survive and reclaim ownership of your mind. Explore the extensive world or try to find a companion to help you through the lonely world. Have caution, though: sometimes choices mean life or death.
The Abyss is an extensive and complex game in the style of choose-your-own-adventure stories. It tests the limits of the genre, and pulls together myth and fact to create an immersive and intricate world of motivation, struggle, and self-identity.
GAME PLAY
Tap on the red words to make choices and determine the course of your game play. Make choices and explore the world via these red links.
Tap the menu button in the top left-hand corner for the ability to restart, rewind, or share the game with others. The restart button takes you back to the menu of the story. After you have reached the "cave" passage, you can rewind your play back to this section to make different choices from this place. Swipe left to return to the game.
